Walking when on holiday, around Mazamet and the Montagne Noire, South of France

Walking on holiday, around Mazamet and the Montagne Noire, South France

One of the most relaxing way to spend your holiday is walking the many beautiful areas of the South of France.

Maps of Historic walks around Mazamet are available in the Gite or from the Tourist office located in the town centre.

There are so many different walks, too many for one holiday. A very good map is the IGN-map 2344E of the Series Blue (Mazamet). It is important to carry a compass, water, some food and tissues, and wear good walking shoes, a hat or cap and perhaps even carry a good walking stick. This is rough nature. These walks go over ancient paths and have been used in the past for travelling through the mountains.

The mountains also have several beautiful lakes offering refreshment on a hot day. One of these lakes is Lac Birotos in Pradelles-Cabardès, with a nice little beach and clear water.

Apart from walking and nature, history is an important goal for many people's holiday, there is much to see in Mazamet, Hautpoul, Albi and Carcassonne.
